Together with the BrighterBins device you should have received a magnet similar to this one:
Now, to activate the installed device with the magnet look at the following video:

The device is turned on and off via a magnet.
Bringing the North Pole of a magnet near a specified location printed as “North Here” on the device's label turns the device on while bringing the South Pole to the same location turns it off. This is a latched operation. There is a label pasted on one side of the device. A sample image of the label is below: The North Pole of the Magnet should face the cross sign to turn on
To turn the device off, the South Pole of the magnet should be brought incidentally to the cross marked on the device sticker. An example image is shown below:
South Pole of the Magnet should face the crossed sign to turn off
Listen to the buzzer sounds
For NB IOT and LoRaWAN, There is a buzzer inside the device for notifications to the end user. These notifications will automatically indicate to the installer the following notifications:
a. if the device is properly turned on
b. if the device's initial checks are OK
c. if the first transmission from the device is made
This is an automated process and the device does all checks by itself. When the device is powered via the magnet, the buzzer turns on for 3 seconds and turns off for 3 seconds. This pattern is repeated 3 times.
- The device configures itself and performs a unit test on itself via an automated process. When the
checks are performed and found OK, the buzzer sounds for short pulses of time; 0.25 seconds to be exact. It turns on for 0.25 seconds and turns off for 0.25 seconds. This pattern is repeated 5 times.
- However, if the checks fail, the buzzer sounds for longer pulses of time (5 seconds). It turns on and off for 5 seconds each and repeats this pattern 5 times.
- The device starts communicating right after it is turned on; when the first transmission is successful, the buzzer turns on and off for 0.5 seconds each. This pattern is repeated 10 times.
- If the transmission is not successful, the buzzer turns on and off for 3 seconds each. This pattern is repeated 10 times.
When everything is ok, you can then go and check the updated on the Application for BrighterBins devices https://trackzone.brighterbins.com/.
