To have a great experience, it's good to follow some basic steps:
STEP 0 - Get the accessory needed.
You will need to make sure that the APN from your Telco is defined on the Tracking device. For the case of Digital Matter devices the APN configuration is done with the help of a device called DM-Link so please make sure that you have one of those. Based on the previous cases, we can say that having an DM-Link device is key to have a great experience with Digital Matter trackers.
Note:
In some cases, the Digital Matter Tracker Device might work without the explicit APN configuration.
That means that in some cases, the Digital Matter Tracker Device might not work without the explicit APN configuration.
We don't want to have a device that might work. As we want a device that will work, we strongly recommend to get define the APN with the help of the DM-Link device.
STEP 1 - Get the proper batteries.
Digital Matter devices are designed in a way that they will consume very little power. At the same time, if we want them to keep in the expected way we also need to use the batteries recommended by the manufacturer: The Energizer Ultimate Lithium Battery.
https://energizer.com/batteries/energizer-ultimate-lithium-batteries/
These batteries are normally available on local shops. We very strongly recommend avoid using batteries which are not Energizer Ultimate Lithium.
STEP 2 - Check connectivity.
Most of the Digital Matter devices require cellular LPWAN to connect, this means LTE-M or NB-IoT. This being say, if you want to use a device that requires any of these 2 standards, then you need to make sure that the connectivity offered to your device is the correct one.
For instance, if you want to use a device that only works with NB-IoT then you need to make sure that the connectivity that you have allows the NB-IoT.
If you are using a SIM Card offered by ALSO, you can find the main details here:
- KPN only works with LTE-M, it doesn't work with NB-IoT.
- Magenta works with both: LTE-M and also NB-IoT.
STEP 3 - Hands on the device !
Now that we are ready:
a. Let's put the correct SIM Card on the device.
b. Let's put the recommended batteries on the device.
c. With the DM-Link we configure the APN as indicated by the Telco. For the case of the SIM Cards that we offer it's always iot.secure. The usage of the DM-Link is explained in detail here:
https://support.digitalmatter.com/en_US/operational/wired-provisioning-tool
d. That's all ! You can see if the device is working on this page: https://www.oemserver.com/installer
If the steps 0, 1 and 2 were followed, the device will work. It might be that some few restarts of the device (removing batteries waiting 3 minutes and then and putting them again) is needed. Please allow a couple of hours between each restart and kindly be patient, it will work. This first connection might take a while, but after that, everything should run smoothly.
Final remark:
Are you using a device that uses Location Engine ? if yes, please make sure you select Default - [GNSS, WiFi Bundle+Cell] on your conector.
What if after many restarts, the device has still not connected ? Please contact support and we will be glad to assist.
